SFPC's Caring Ministries seek to provide help and prayer to those in need. Whether you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, the financial hardship of unemployment, the grip of addiction, or the loneliness due to being unable to leave your home, we want to walk with you and provide support during these times. Read below to learn a little more about the ministries we provide out of care for our congregation.

Prayer Support

We have an active Prayer Chain. You can get your concerns added

to their list right away by contacting the office.

In addition, our pastors are always willing to listen to any pastoral
concern, offer support, guidance and prayer.

We also could assign a Stephen Minister to you to walk along this
challenging journey with you.

On any Sunday morning, you can also ask any of our Elders of the
Day.

Also, there are prayer request cards in our pews.

There are many active members who'd be willing to pray with and
for you.

Through our Prayer Shawl Ministry, you may receive a shawl
knitted with prayers for healing and wholeness by this group of
dedicated Christians. You may also request a shawl to give to a
person in need of care, warm comfort and prayers. The Prayer
Shawl Ministry group meets at 3 pm on the third Sundays of the
month in the North Wing and will be glad to teach anybody their skills!

Occasionally, we have a special Prayer Service for Healing and
Wholeness, which is meditative, simple and quiet in style and in
which special prayers for healing are solicited.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are trained lay people to provide one-to-one
Christian care to hurting people in and around your congregation.
If you are interested in receiving a Stephen Minister, please talk
to our pastor. If you are interested in being trained, do the same.

Elders, Shepherds, Mentors

At SFPC, our elders undergo extensive training. They are schooled in
Presbyterian doctrine and have worked through what it means to them
personally to aspire to be a model Christian and caring church member.
Some churches distinguish between 'elders' and 'deacons', but we do not.
Elders will help you and happily answer your questions.
Please speak to our elders!

If you like to shower people with special attention and just do a kind
deed such as writing a card, calling somebody on the phone or just being
around when needed, shepherding is for you! Shepherds at SFPC are
people who volunteer to be assigned a few members of the church just
to stay in touch with them in any way that they see fit and like. You can
shepherd one person or several families. This is just one more way to
extend the hand of friendship and to feel part of a living Christian community.

Anybody who is interested in joining our church community can take an
'Inquirers' class' offered at several times a year. This is a chance to ask
questions, explore answers and find a few 'kindred spirits' along the way.
Upon joining our church community and becoming a member of SFPC, the
Session assigns each new member a mentor who is charged with helping
for a year to you find your place in a group and to continue seeking and
growing in faith.

Small Groups

Small Groups can play a powerful role in your sense of belonging.
Fellowship in an intimate group can help you understand yourself better and
provide encouragement and support in your faith journey. They offer ample
opportunity for personal growth.
We believe that Christian lives are meant to be lived out in community.
